The village of Dodson, La. had dial up... barely. No kind of high speed internet was or would be available for residents, businesses, schools, local government or anyone else. The simple reason was, it wasn't economically feasible for a high speed provider to run broadband to about 400 people in rural Louisiana. No online educational benefits for the students there. No online business for the economy. None of the benefits and opportunities that high speed internet brings to people in urban areas all over the country.
All that changed in 2006 with the help of Bayou Internet and Communications, who assisted The Village of Dodson in applying for and receiving a Grant from the USDA Rural Development Dept., to set up a wireless high speed internet system for the village.
During the presentation ceremony, attended by state and federal government figures, Mike Taylor, state director of the USDA Rural Development said, "It will level the playing field." Dodson will be able to compete in the world market, and enjoy the same benefits many take for granted.
This web site is to commemorate that day. Please have a look around and learn about the Little Village in the Piney Woods. |
